Do it 'little-by-little' | Scripture-break

I have heard numerous times that it's usually better to do a task 'little by little' in order for you not to feel so much pressure that it becomes overwhelming.

In recent times, I have come across this notion more than I normally do.

A piece that I recall made an impact on my life was about making small, almost insignificant, habitual changes if you would like to see a long-term habit change. So for example, if you would like to eat healthier, don't cut everything out of your diet at once (though this might obviously be the best approach to some people), because this could lead to major withdrawals and you might find yourself eating even worse than you did before you started the diet.

But you may rather decide to eat of less of the things you feel are bad for you, for example by ordering smaller quantities, or eating it fewer times a week and rather substitute that food-item with the one you deem healthier.

I too have seen this concept play out in my life quite well. Last year (2019), I was involved in numerous activities that could have become overwhelming at a quick pace. Earlier in the year, I had made the decision to try something new - do a little bit of work each day (for 6 days, to be precise).

It wasn't until I had many tasks given to me in a short span on time that I realised how grateful I was to have started using this method.

In the bible, we come across a part that discusses how God promised that the Israelites would only take possession of the promised land 'little-by-little' because they did not have the power to overcome the enemy 'all at once' (Exodus 23:30).

Perhaps when we allow ourselves to do things in small chunks, we allow our capability to be expanded that much more to the extent that what you couldn't do suddenly becomes achievable.
