Nothing is as it appears.

Everything that we have come to know and believe, is because we learnt it that way. And just because something has been learnt a specific way, it does not ever mean it is actually that way.

That car, this bed, that person, that thing, that place - all with judgements we have placed on them such as “it cannot do that,” “she would never do that,” “it can do that.” But none of it is reality.

This made sense to me after I realised that someone dear to me was not actually what I had painted them to be. After finding out that they were not whom I had believed they were, I felt my mind go into denial. “There's absolutely no ways!” “It cannot be!” I kept on convincing myself.

But then I paused and questioned the doubt: Why was it so hard for me to believe something that was a fact. The person had directly told me that they were not what I originally thought they were, yet I was still could not bring myself to believe it.

It was at this moment that I realised that it was hard for me to believe it because of my own preconceived judgments. The facts were always in existence, But I had painted my own image of what I wanted things to be, believed it, and then proceeded to shape my life around it.

This realisation shifted things for me.

On the other hand, in the same breath, it also means that every limitation we once placed on ourselves is null. It means that each one of us can wake up tomorrow and change the narrative. We may choose to become the opposite of everything we believed of ourselves previously - whether it's good or bad.

Because, everything we think is - actually isn’t. And everything we think isn’t - actually can.
